Model United Nations at Col Brown Cambridge School

The Model United Nations is a platform to expose students the world over to broaden their horizon of social, economic and political understanding of different societies. This exposure helps them develop opinions on various on-going international issues.

Col Brown Cambridge School initiated its MUN on 14th and 15th October 2022, Friday and Saturday, in the Memorial Hall. 45 students from classes VIII to XII zealously participated. The event began with a song, ‘We are the World’; and concluded with, ‘The Song of Peace’ on both days. Three committees of the UN were simulated: United Nations Humanitarian Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Disarmament and International Security Council (DISEC).

The areas discussed in different sessions were Humanitarian Crisis as well as the Problems Faced by Women in Afghanistan, Biological Terrorism & Warfare and the Russian Ukraine War.

Vigorous brainstorming resulted in dynamic discussions that not only enhanced the understanding of students on burning international issues but also helped them learn the art of analysing them. The participants and also the audience realised that problems have to be identified, raised, sorted and resolved. In addition to this, the participants in the CBS MUN learnt the importance of research on a given agenda and the need to consistently hone their oratory skills.

This event has been a complete success as it has encouraged the students to realise the importance of the UN and its goals to promote world peace through cooperation and diplomacy; and, the need for selfless leaders who work for their nations.
