S.K._Chatterjee

Mr.Suniti Kumar Chatterjee passed away to find eternal peace and happiness on 16th of February, 2016 in England. His final rites will be performed, there, on the 3rd of March, 2016. With him an era has gone.

A plethora of memories come flooding to my mind as I remember Mr.Chatterjee. In 1954 when he joined the School I was in Junior II (Today’s VII) and mine was the first class he taught. He became a Maths teacher in the junior section and then in senior school when Mr.B.Nath (Panditji) retired.

Mr.Chatterjee or “Chat” as we fondly called him became so much, a part of the school, because of his enthusiasm and participation in all activities. He was keenly interested in Dramatics and in later years was a force behind many short plays staged in the school. One also remembers him for his ‘beloved’ stationary. This appeared, during break and after school when a long line was always waiting for pencils and rubbers. He loved playing Tennis and Badminton and as a younger staff member one could see him on the courts till mid sixties. A strict disciplinarian, but a very kind and compassionate, human being.

Mr.Chatterjee lived in the annex of Patel House and was 24X7 in school—- love for his work and school was his life. He met Doreen on an excursion to Paris . They got married in Mussorie and he moved to England and since lived there—-of course visiting India quite often. Our thoughts are with Doreen in this hour of grief. She took great care of him and her son David was there when the last moment arrived.

Rest in Peace, Sir. We will remember you as a part of CBS.
